In anime, there are many genres and categories that fans live and die by. Here are the types of anime people care about; of course, this is just speculation, but I will say that based on 3 years of research on top shows and future releases, I can narrow down the studio’s focus to a few exciting groups.
In anime, there’s usually a rule of thumb when categorizing shows. The target audience, story inspiration, character design, and pace of story progression can determine whether a show is of top quality or lacks traction.
Take the current winter of 2020 as an example. By any traditional standards, Magic Bayonet should be a good show based on its overall story, promotional art, and magic, adventure, and shounen subgenres. Shows like Fairy Tail, Black Clover, or to some extent MAGI are well-marketed shows that fit the subgenre.
The problem I found with Witchy Bayonet was that the show revealed major storylines too early in its timeline. We see the protagonist gradually transform into a weak character who is visually monotonous. He just wants to find his crush and transform her back. Demon Thorn is spoiled, and we see him encounter her multiple times, but he is powerless to do anything about her, often acting like a narcissistic child who gets in the way of others.
Historical or samurai anime seem to be genres to watch out for. Samurai Champloo, Dororo, Mushibugyou, Anything About Nobunaga Oda, they all have some lessons to teach and often touch on historical facts from Japanese history or folklore. intrinsic value. Of course, there are some bad shows in this genre, but the lines are blurred as to what is rated as a bad show, because even bad shows have some good points.
Musical animation provides a warm, engaging and relatable story structure. When you watch an anime about a high school marching band, or when you enjoy some emotional songs composed by two girls on Planet Development, Soul, you know what you’re going to get.
Isekai anime relies on the fact that everyone wants to escape reality once in a while. We imagine another world that would be more receptive and offer new experiences. Let’s hope it doesn’t screw us over like it did in Shield Hero, and the goal is to get out of this world rather than get stuck like in Record Horizon. These animations pose a unique question to the viewer: What would you do in this situation? Our collective minds began to shift and our creativity surged. I think about what my role or job might be, I think about what this new world might have to offer. Isekai or “another world” anime revolves around the idea that being somewhere else is almost always more exciting than where you are now.
