The biggest name in Marvel Comics just left for DC

In one of the most shocking moments in recent comics history, writer Brian Michael Bendis, a Marvel Comics staple for years, is heading to DC Comics and signing an exclusive deal with the publisher. The mind behind the last spider man, House of H, secret invasion, Powersand Spider-Men–Some of the best Marvel comics of the last decade will be working with a whole new batch of characters in the years to come.

DC announced the news (via Twitter): “We are beyond excited to welcome Brian Michael Bendis exclusively to the DC family with a multi-faceted, multi-year contract. He is one of the top writers in the industry and has created so many unforgettable stories wherever he has been, and we can’t wait to see what he has planned for the DC Universe.”

Bendis retweeted the statement.adding, “This is real. I love you all. Change is good. Change is healthy. I’m full of ideas and inspirations. Details to come!”

This won’t be Bendis’ first time writing in DC. In 2000, he wrote a story for Batman Chronicles #21 called “Citizen Wayne”, where Clark Kent tries to discover Bruce Wayne’s darkest secrets. However, Bendis has never had a full-time job at DC until now, so the doors are open for him to take on old characters and create some new ones.

While non-comic book readers may not be familiar with him, they will be familiar with some of the characters he has created. Bendis is credited with creating Jessica Jones, who has her own Netflix series; Quake, who is one of the main characters of Agents of SHIELD; Maria Hill, who has appeared in numerous Marvel films; and Ganke; WHO Spider-Man’s HomecomingNed Leeds is based on whether Sony and Marvel wanted to admit it or not.

At the moment, there’s no word on what Bendis will work on first at DC, and the writer still has comics finishing up at Marvel, such as the miniseries. Spider-Man II.
