The 2026 Reuben Awards and the NCS Conference – CartoonStock.com Blog

Last August 6th and 8th I attended the National Cartoonists Society’s Reuben Awards in Columbus, Ohio. It was a great time to celebrate the world’s best cartoonists and be inspired by the close community of artists from around the world. As a student at the University of Michigan, I had to reluctantly embrace the incredible curatorship and collection of the Billy Ireland Museum at Ohio State. The first day there were some seminars followed by tours of the incredible cartoon history the museum had to offer. We also had a happy hour where I got to meet several CartoonStock artists like Phil Witte, Pat Byrnes, and Gag nominee Tom Toro.

Speaking of nominees, CartoonStock represents more than 25% of the candidates for a Reuben Award.

On Friday we had our gala awards. Here I am with Mort Gerberg, his wife Judith and cartoonist (nominee and previous Gag winner) Joe Dator.

Tom Toro won the award for best gag artist! (Sorry for the blurry photo).

The next day I visited several artists giving talks and book signings. Below are some fans of Maria Scrivan, who, in addition to being a cartoonist, is also a graphic novelist.

And here’s Jim Benton brainstorming with a young fan.

Lastly, it was great to share the world of cartoons with my children, who met one of their heroes in Dav Pilkey. Although we are not CartoonStock artists, we are working on it!

A full list of winners can be found here. I hope to see you next year in San Diego!
