Rayearth #03 — Tutorials will continue

But I won’t do it.
Quasi-impressions:
So… it’s explained for the 19th time that this is like an RPG, that they need a weapon, that weapons are used to fight, you can fight with weapons, but you can’t use just any weapon, you have to choose the right weapon, wait, no, the weapon chooses you, so ignore the last five minutes of the tutorial. Okay, goodbye, go live your adventure. Oh no, a winged cyclops. Wait, now we have weapons! Weapons can be used to fight things. Let’s fight this with our weapons. Hurrah. We fought it with our weapons and that allowed us to win. But wait, there’s another monster. Oh no! If only we had a way to combat it with weapons or something. Wait, a cute boy saved us. Suspense.
The sweet Mary of Nazareth whips Zeus with a stick. There have been three episodes. In the LN adaptations of the harem fighting school of yesteryear, not only would we have introduced 80% of the harem at this point, but we would be close to concluding the first arc. Even magical girl shows would have saved at least 3 or 4 people by now, no… *checks* anyone. And he threatened a random cyclops. As far as we know, he was just protecting his nest. Here, we get an entire episode where these complete morons continue to be completely passive in the story, while they scream and howl at the most idiotic, crippling tutoring. You will probably spend the next three weeks learning that fire is warming, water is wet, and wind is airy. I don’t care if this is an exact 1:1 representation of the manga. If so, then the manga’s pacing and writing were also bloated and useless nonsense.
I’m out. Which makes this Sunday-Wednesday season a dead zone. Maybe I’ll find something else to post about. I’ve been really tempted to go back and try to fix Battle Moon Wars’ incomplete state, although IIRC, that’s largely because a bunch of strings are hardcoded into the exe, which isn’t something I can handle well myself. Maybe I just let the open wounds fester. I expected this season to be bad and boy does it live up to the hype.
