Overgeared #01 – No Text

September 22, 2026

Could you put more words on the screen? I can still see part of the ground.

This, oddly retitled “Temppal – The Power of Items” for Japan, had an early Korean webcast of the first two episodes a week and a half ago, hence the scrambled Korean subtitles despite being in Japanese. Its actual broadcast begins on Sunday the 27th. The full season recap should be available the Friday after Elusive Sam. There are almost 20 shows that explicitly involve other video game worlds. It’s going to be… difficult.

Impressions:

And as you might have guessed from the Korean font and the large number of pop-ups on the status screen, it’s another one of these. Don’t worry. There are not just status screens. There is also a disembodied NPC who announces things. And when I look at the Japanese text overlaid with Korean text, I can’t help but appreciate that for regular subtitle viewers, this is completely normal; two layers of walls of text overlapping each other, with a third text box for the subtitles, filling the entire screen with… this. And that these things have such a depressingly large number of fans that they can’t get enough of these literal walls of text.

At least it’s trying to be more of a comedic curveball instead of a pure Edgelord revenge fantasy like your Solo Levelings or Tomb Raider Kings. There is more emphasis on overreacting faces and “funny” screams than on torture porn. It’s not that torture porn doesn’t exist, it’s just that everyone poofs when they get cut in half. Which doesn’t stop them from screaming at the top of their lungs about how serious things are, or drooling while the camera lingers on their cleavage. It’s also not the worst animation, which doesn’t seem like a high bar considering how often the screen is just a literal wall of text, but most of these abominations barely manage to rise above slideshows, and are at least one level above that.

It’s still the same trick. Random inventions make him the weakest with level -1, but also the power to craft equipment that has max stats. Him and ten thousand other idiots. I guess they needed this to be a two-episode premiere because he doesn’t start making divine equipment until the second, which I only watched because, frankly, this show has yelled at me enough for one morning.
