Return of the manga “Himouto! Umaru-chan” (Umaru-chan 100)
Hello gang! I recently reviewed the Himouto! Umaru-chan manga series and its one-volume sequel, Himouto! Umaru-chan G1 (review of that one here). I liked them a lot and I don’t regret my purchases. I know there is another spin-off manga. Akita Imokko! Ebina-chanwith Ebina-chan that I need to read (which was not licensed in the West). There are a couple of others Umaru-chan The manga titles are not drawn by Sankaku Head, so I won’t count them at this time.
I recently started reading the current Sankaku Head series, My dear devilish daughter. Then upon hearing the news that Sensei was planning to resume Himouto! Umaru-chan It was a big surprise for me. After all, Sensei announced that he would no longer do a weekly manga format due to family and health issues. However, I later learned that his My dear devilish daughter The series ends with volume 6. So, that gives you time to return to your most popular series.
That said, the new series will apparently be called Umaru-chan 100. It will be launched on the seinen Yanjan+ digital platform. That will allow Sensei to write chapters on his schedule instead of a printed schedule.
my thoughts
I have mixed thoughts about this. Like I said, I enjoyed it. Himouto! Umaru-chan pretty good. So I’m not opposed to reading more of this series. After all, I think one of my complaints about the ending of the original manga was that the girls didn’t graduate high school. This gives Sankaku Head a chance to rectify this. Plus, you can move girls forward in their lives while still staying in touch.
That said, the main joke of the manga series is the fact that Umaru-chan’s main group of friends don’t know their secret identities. She is UMR-san from the gaming community that her friend Sylph belongs to. Sylph doesn’t know that UMR-san is Umaru-chan. Her scruffy, more natural personality is known by another friend as “Komaru”, who thinks that Komaru is Umaru-chan’s little sister. Basically, everyone has to be dumb as a brick for character jokes.
Frankly, that joke got really old for me by the time the manga ended. If Sankaku Head decides to keep up the joke, I’ll find the manga boring. I really hope his friends learn these other sides of Umaru-chan. We already know that they will accept her as she is. And I think moving Umaru-chan’s character forward would be a breath of fresh air.
When Umaru-chan 100 It comes out on October 1st, if there is some kind of English version I will read it and review it.
