It’s been a long, long time since we first launched. Gurren Lagann on Blu-ray here in the UK, but even after all those years the show’s popularity has endured, and we’ve been asked many times if we plan to release both films in the series on 4K UHD Blu-ray at some point.
Well, now we can give you the answer, and the answer is: Yeah! We’re eager to bring you a whole new way to enjoy this iconic series, so without further ado, let’s dive into our plans for Gurren Lagann the movie!
Gurren Lagann the movie Collector’s Edition 4K UHD + Blu-ray
Let’s start with a quick reminder of what Gurren Lagann it’s about!
This is the story of a man who has not yet realized what destiny has in store for him… In the distant future, humans have lived underground, quietly and restlessly, for hundreds of years, suffering from frequent earthquakes and land subsidence. In Giha Village, one of those clandestine communities, two young people live. Simon is shy and naive, while Kamina believes in the existence of a “shallow” world above their heads. Their fates begin to change dramatically when the roof falls and gigantic “gunmen” and a beautiful girl named Yoko with a superconducting rifle emerge from the surface. Kamina, Simon and Yoko board the “Lagann” that Simon pulls out of the ground and jump to the surface. However, the surface is not a dreamland as Kamina imagined. The world is ruled by the Spiral King and his army. Kamina and Simon, along with their comrades, must challenge the Spiral King with Gurren Lagann if they hope to change this desperate world for the better!
Since it’s been so long since we last released a collector’s edition on this show, we wanted to offer both films in collector’s packaging, so let’s take a look and see what we have to offer!
Adorning your shelf will be a hardshell case (wrapped in a J-card information sheet) featuring this all-new piece of art created specifically for the films’ 15th anniversary Japanese re-release. Inside you’ll find two Amaray cases, one for each film with artwork specific to that film. Speaking of illustrations, we’ll also include a couple of art cards with illustrations from the two films, just in case.

Inside each Amaray, you’ll find two discs: one for the corresponding movie on 4K UHD Blu-ray, plus the regular Blu-ray movie for good measure, so if you’re looking to own the program for the first time or just want to future-proof your collection, this is a great way to do it!
Both UHD Blu-ray discs in this set contain the two movies in 4K HDR10; both films feature the original Japanese audio (with English subtitles) and the new English dubbed tracks, both presented in Dolby Atmos format. A Japanese stereo audio commentary for the production team’s films with English subtitles is also included.
The Blu-ray discs from this release have been rewritten for this new edition to include that new English dub, as well as the original Japanese dub with English subtitles, both in 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio. That Japanese audio commentary is also included here, in stereo DTS-HD Master Audio with English subtitles.
Our collector’s edition of the Gurren Lagann movie is released on August 31with an SRP of €79.99. Early bird pre-orders at a special limited-time price open exclusively on our online store AllTheAnime.com at Thursday July 16 at 5 pm!
Gurren Lagann the movie Standard Editions
In addition to this Collector’s Edition, we will also be making the films available as a 4K UHD Standard Edition, with both films in 4K UHD in an Amaray case, with the same disc content as the Collector’s Edition.
This edition will be released a little later in the year (expect to see it around November) and has an SRP of €49.99.
If you just want the movies on regular Blu-ray, we’ll also be re-releasing it as a standard edition, using this new author to provide you with that English dub.
Again, the contents of the disc are the same as the Collector’s Edition. This edition will retail at an RRP of £29.99 and will be available in all stores, with the same release and pre-order dates as the Collector’s Edition, meaning pre-orders will open on Thursday July 16 at five in the afternoon.
