Warner Bros. and DC Studios have released an electrifying new trailer for supergirloffering audiences a deeper look at the emotional and action journey that awaits Kara Zor-El. Portrayed by Milly AlcockThis version of Supergirl appears to balance cosmic-scale stakes with a personal, grounded narrative centered on identity, belonging, and loss.
The trailer begins with an intimate exchange between Kara and her cousin, Superman, played by David Corenswet. Instead of opening with spectacle, the film leans into character, as Clark expresses concern about Kara’s tendency to isolate herself by spending a lot of time out of the world. Their concern is not only for their safety, but also for their emotional well-being, specifically, their struggle to “find their people.” Kara’s response underscores the film’s central conflict: despite her immense power, she feels deeply alone. In a line that sums up her displacement, she insists that she has no real home except for the company of Krypto.
This fragile sense of stability is quickly broken. The inciting incident in the trailer reveals that Krypto has been poisoned by the forces of the Krem of the Yellow Hills, played by Matías Schoenaerts. With just three days to save her loyal companion, Kara finds herself thrust into a high-risk mission that combines urgency with emotional weight. The threat Krem represents seems both personal and far-reaching, positioning him as a formidable antagonist whose actions impact multiple lives.
Among those affected is Ruthye Marye Knoll, played by Eva Ridleya young woman seeking justice after the murder of her father at the hands of the Krem faction. Interestingly, Kara takes on a mentoring role and warns Ruthye against the corrosive nature of revenge. This thematic thread suggests that the film will explore moral complexity, challenging the traditional superhero dichotomy between good and evil. Kara’s guidance (“revenge won’t take away your pain”) points to a narrative inverted in both emotional consequences and physical conflict.
The trailer also shows the arrival of Lobo, the infamous antihero played by Jason Momoa. Known for his chaotic and morally ambiguous nature, Lobo’s inclusion hints at a broader tonal palette, potentially injecting unpredictability and dark humor into the story. His presence expands the film’s scope beyond a singular revenge narrative into something more expansive within the DC Universe.
Directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Noguera, supergirl comes immediately after the commercial success of Supermanwhich grossed more than $618 million worldwide. With DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran Going into production, expectations are high for this next chapter in DC’s changing film landscape.
It will be released in theaters and IMAX across North America on June 26. supergirl promises a compelling combination of introspection and spectacle. If the trailer is any indication, audiences can expect not only a battle against external enemies, but also an internal journey as Kara Zor-El searches for connection, purpose, and a place to call home.
