New ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Photo Shows Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk Almost Got His First Beard In The Movie

Concept art has revealed that Hulk almost had a surprising new look in Spider-Man: New Day. The return of MCU star Mark Ruffalo in Tom Holland’s fourth Spider-Man outing was kept under wraps throughout production until trailers finally confirmed Bruce Banner’s involvement in the sequel. Although he never directed his own film, Ruffalo has been a constant throughout the MCU, appearing in adventures with Thor, She-Hulk and, this year, Spider-Man.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day – The Art of the Movie has shown off some unique looks that were considered for Hulk in the Phase 6 movie. Throughout his time in the MCU, Hulk has had several variations of his typical green look. After 2008 The Incredible Hulk With Edward Norton, Hulk’s facial model changed to reflect that of Ruffalo in the new role. Ruffalo has played the mean green fighting machine in his savage and intelligent versions of the Hulk, but Spider-Man: New Day I was considering bringing something new to the table.

One of the concept art designs in Ruffalo’s character art book depicted the Hulk with a beard. While in Hulk form, the character had previously been shown with a light beard or clean shaven, but never with significant facial hair as in this design.

While Spider-Man: New Day He ultimately did not use the bearded option, this would have marked the first time the Hulk had been depicted with a beard in the MCU.

Generally, Hulk’s facial design will mirror that of Banner’s human form in whatever project he is in. Spider-Man: New Day which took place approximately four years later Spider-Man: No Way Homewhich was a similar point in the timeline to the last time the public saw Ruffalo in She-Hulkdepicting Bruce Banner with a beard could have been a logical choice to underscore the passage of time. But in the end, both halves of Banner appeared clean-shaven in the film.

Hulk’s design in the fourth Spider-Man film broke the character’s boundaries, as he grew to his largest and most monstrous form to date after spending years locked up due to Bruce Banner’s inhibitor.

Various other images of Spider-Man: Brand New Day – The Art of the Movie Depict Hulk in various ways. After several years as Smart Hulk following Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: New Day saw the return of Bruce Banner in his human form.

Smart Hulk makes a brief appearance in the film and is the form Banner initially changes into after his inhibitor is removed. However, this version of the Hulk is short-lived after Jean Grey’s mind control breaks something inside Banner’s mind, bringing out an even more powerful Savage Hulk from within.

For some time, fans theorized whether Banner could transform into Gray Hulk, another Hulk alter ego within Banner in the comics, who is more cunning and selfish. However, that was not what happened, since Spider-Man: New Day He ultimately opted to use a larger, more dangerous version of Savage Hulk to fight Spider-Man.

Savage Hulk’s concept art for Spider-Man: Brand New Day consistently looks less like Ruffalo’s facial model, further instilling that this is intentionally a more monstrous version of the Hulk that is even further removed from Banner’s morality and control.

The climactic fight between Spider-Man and the Hulk takes place in the Department of Damage Control building in New York, when Jean Gray takes control of Banner’s mind, forces his transformation, and then uses the Hulk to distract Spider-Man. At this point, Spider-Man has also asked for help from his sometimes ally, The Punisher (Jon Bernthal), who finds himself drawn into the fight alongside Spider-Man against the Hulk.

What’s next for Hulk after Spider-Man: Brand New Day?

The Hulk is one of the few original members of the Avengers team who has continued to play an active role in the MCU throughout the Multiverse Saga. Now that Spider-Man: New Day has brought the character back into the spotlight in a big way, Ruffalo’s character is set for a major arc heading into the next two Avengers movies.

Spider-Man: New Day ended with Banner returning to his human form and being taken away under lock and key after his monstrous episode. The new post-credits scene Avengers: Endgame Encore He then confirmed that Banner had gone into self-exile by locking himself in an underground bunker. But the bunker was not as impenetrable as it might have seemed, as Banner is visited by Doctor Doom, who recruits him for his plans, setting up Banner and Hulk’s participation in Avengers: Judgment Day.

It looks like Ruffalo still has a couple more MCU projects locked down like Hulk, with an arc in Avengers: Judgment Day and Avengers: Secret Wars It seems likely now, but it remains to be seen how much that will extend to the next saga after the Multiverse Saga. Ruffalo has a good track record of playing a supporting role as Banner/Hulk in other characters’ solo stories, even if not in his own main film, which opens many doors for him to appear again, although many still hope that a Hulk solo film is on the table in the future.
