We’re excited to interview Blue Lily Games about their upcoming survival horror game, The moon is pale. The moon is pale is a hand-drawn story-driven game full of exploration, puzzles, and tense combat. In this interview, we discuss the game’s inspiration, animation process, Kickstarter goals, and what players can expect from the game world.
1. Tell us about “The Moon Is Pale.” What kind of game is this and what can players expect?
Moonlight Pale is a complete survival horror experience, a horror adventure game that blends the PS2 survival horror era with role-playing game style. It’s a story-driven game with a focus on exploration, puzzle-solving, and intense combat mechanics.
2. What inspired the story, world, and characters of “Pale Moon”?
The inspiration for “Pale Moonlight” mainly came from a nightmare one night. You’ll notice the huge influence of psychological horror games like Silent Hill 2 and Rose Rule, as well as movies like Suspiria and A Tale of Two Sisters.
3. Can you talk about the hand-drawing process of the game?

Ao Clover: Everything is animated frame-by-frame at 24 fps and hand-drawn. Of course, since I handle all sprites and assets myself, it would be best to find an efficient (and less laborious) way to streamline the animation process, such as using a small number of frames. For example: Juliet will use different weapons to defend herself throughout the game, so I started by animating her head and torso with separate arms. This way, I just have to change her arms to different objects that she will be holding. Also, all actions are drawn from scratch, but if one frame in the action looks similar to another, I’ll take the liberty of reusing them!
4. What advice would you give to creators who are afraid to start making their own games?
There is nothing to be afraid of. There are tons of free options and resources at your disposal! Now make a game. Just do it.
5. What is the main goal of the Moonlight Pale Kickstarter?

Our main goal is to be financially secure while developing the game, haha. We also hope to port Moonlight Pale to more platforms.
6. What was the most challenging part of writing “Moonlight Pale”?
There are only 2 of us working on it, and it’s the first time we’ve developed a game like this in Unity. Every asset was hand-drawn, so it took some trial and error to get things right. Mainly a lot of layering work.
7. What is the most rewarding part of developing a game?

The game itself.
8. Which characters do you particularly want players to meet?

All of them!
9. How long has “Pale Moonlight” been developed?
We started working on “Moonlight Pale” around December 2025, and it took about 6 months!
10. For those who are new to your work, why should they watch “Moonlight Pale”?
We grew up playing survival horror and horror adventures from a very young age, which we probably shouldn’t be doing. This type of design and specificity is in our DNA. “Moonlight Pale” came from a nightmare, but it was truly a dream come true. If you like survival horror games, or even if you’re new to the genre and enjoy indie animation, tragic stories, or the doomed Yuri, we think you’ll enjoy Moonlight Pale. Our goal is to make Moonlight Pale a strangely uncomfortable and enjoyable experience for anyone who enters its tragic world.
11. Where can people follow the project and support Kickstarter?
