Straight from Japan Society comes news of a new movie: the premiere of Atsushi Nishigori’s original anime film Grotesqqque (also known as Grotesque) on October 8 in New York City. Cloverworks and Aniplex of America worked together to create the anime film.
Director Atsushi Nishigori will have a pre-screening introduction before the upcoming premiere event. Atsushi Nishigori’s previous works include DEAR in the FRANXXcharacter design for Gurren Lagann and IDOLM@STER. He has also worked on other series. CloverWorks is known for producing animation titles such as spy x family.
Grotesqqque is a collection of three short films. More than thirty musical artists contributed to the film. The three short films in this anthology are:
“A(E)LIEN – A slapstick comedy starring an alien girl at full speed!
YOROSHIKU★ Girl – A frenetic battle royale fought for the crown of “Queen.” Tonight, the girls run through the endless night.
NIGHT: NUIT GROTESQUE – In a world where humanity has already perished, a pure-blooded vampire named Ayame travels in a cart with three girls who survived by being “infected” through his blood.“
Tickets are $35 for non-Japan Society members and $30 for members. The movie starts at 7 pm EST at the in-person event.
Complementing the film is an original soundtrack that will be released on November 6, 2026.
I hope for a wider release for Grostekqque. Each short in the anthology has a different personality and theme: something light, something that gets the adrenaline pumping, and something that gets the blood flowing.
A(E)LIEN is laughable and seems a bit over the top (no pun intended). In an era where Earth interacts with other space residents, Ellie, an extraterrestrial girl, comes to Earth to foster positive relationships. He loves the Earth and hopes to make new friends. And then, evil aliens appear on Earth.
YOROSHIKU★ Girl_ is all about action. It’s the battle anime that people know and love. Some of the best anime works involve competition. This entry, however, combines a pop music vibe with high-energy eccentricity.
NOCTUNE: NUIT GROTESQUE follows the story of Ayame and her travels with three girls. The three girls survive the end of Earth’s days by receiving a bite from Ayame. The quartet tours the abandoned Earth in a van.
Vampires are cool. That’s probably my prejudice since I was born on Halloween. Still, NIGHT: GROTESCA NUIT It’s perfectly timed for Halloween. There are vampires and an apocalyptic backdrop. That’s pretty creepy.
