I saw a dog in a Brooklyn coffee shop the other day that reminded me of myself and how I often am in the world.
Despite her best efforts at maintaining boundaries, the dog could not prevent incursions into her personal space or the flow of foot traffic into it. It reminded me of how little I actually control in my own environment.
We coexist with others. It’s inconvenient. Sometimes we get stepped on. It’s not the end. Sometimes it’s a blessing too.
If we’re lucky, we can learn from experience and become wiser.
I’ll keep doing my best.
Wishing you a safe and satisfying end of summer, as a new season begins.
As always, thanks for reading and being here.
Updates: I’m taking a short break from publishing and will be back with new artwork and comics the week of September 21st.
I’m also excited to share that I’ll be launching custom pet portrait commissions for the first time this fall. Stay tuned!

To new subscribers, thanks for joining! This is where I share a new comic strip each week, while I work on new projects and my longer graphic novel. You can also find my entire cartoon archive here, all the way back to when I first started teaching myself to draw comics 15 years ago. Against all practical odds, I still haven’t given up the dream.
Ways to support this independent publication: Subscribe to once-a-week posts, Share with a friend, Support CartoonConnie on Ko-fi, Follow on Substack or Instagram. Art prints and gifts are available in my shop.
