Thousand-year bloody battle of death The anime returns with episode 4, “Disaster”, starting with episode 41, titled “Thor”. I’m so excited about all the developments to come!
“Thor” picks up where Game 3 ended with Episode 40 “My Last Words” in December 2024, which included Oolong vs. Hasvars and Askin vs. Yoruichi. Of course, Ichigo, Chad, and Orihime must move on to face the “sleeping” Yuwah. I loved how Orihime breathed a sigh of relief as the trio ran up the countless stairs to reach Yuwah’s throne room. Orihime knew that Oolong had not changed his stance. She never doubted his loyalty. But it was still nice to see him take on Yhwach’s army in person.
As Ichigo and his friends approach the throne room, a group of giant statues attack the crew. This particular battle in the manga takes place off-screen as Chad decides to stop the statue and ask Ichigo to move on, with Chad being assisted by Ganju. I still remember how disappointed I was that the creative team didn’t give Chad a moment to shine TYB arc in comics. So, I’m praying we get to see Chad and Ganju defeat a few statues in animation, even if it’s only for a few seconds of screen time.
Can Ichigo and Orihime face Yhwach alone? Well, “Cour 4” has 10 episodes in total. This means Yhwach won’t be defeated anytime soon. That being said, I’m super excited for Ichigo and Orihime to take on Yhwach because of what Orihime did in the fight in the manga. Let’s see how anime decides to adapt this amazing moment.
Coming back to Uyo and Haswals, the all-round ability undoubtedly proves Uyo’s counter-attacking ability. But I like the way Uru still tries to find weaknesses. His strategy of attacking Hasvarth from all sides to limit Hasvarth’s chances of dodging his arrows makes sense.
During their conversation, Haswals shared more details about Jovach’s plans. From what I understand, Yuvachi wants to destroy the world of the living, Soul Society, and the Hollow to start over and create a new world in his own image. Now, trying to rebuild the world isn’t the most original motivation for a villain, but then again, I’ve always thought Yhwach was a bland bad guy. So, his prosaic motivations have always followed me. As far as characterization goes, I just can’t take Yhwach seriously.
I could be wrong, but I don’t recall this conversation ever happening in the comics. So, to Bleach TYBW The creative team continues to provide fans with more content.
Jumping ahead to the second main battle, we have Yuric and Askin. Despite Yoruichi’s speed and strength, Askin’s ability to poison his opponents is no joke. It’s a nasty ability that can bring even the strongest of men to their knees. This is why, from a narrative perspective, Kisuke had to be shown reaching out to Yoruichi. I like that Kisuke just made Yoruichi temporarily immune to Askin’s powerful poison ability, rather than making it look like Yoruichi’s lightning ability was due to him and not her own power.
Fans of Yoruichi have been wondering how the anime would adapt the fan-service battle between Askin and Yoruichi’s Thor form. A bunch of comic panels are very…well.
Well, it turns out those fans have nothing to worry about, as the anime decided to go all out with fan service while depicting Yoruichi using her Raijin Senkei Shunryu Kokubyo Senki against Askin. Did you know? I can’t complain because she looks great!
I always say I (more or less) agree bleach Creator Tite Kubo delivers a dose of fan service as he strikes a balance between making the female characters scantily clad while giving them impressive powers. Frankly, I’d rather other creators go a similar route instead of always relying on their female characters to do fan service while casting them as damsels in distress.
The animation does a great job of depicting Yoruichi’s main amp and visualizing all the lightning effects surrounding her.

The Thunder God form allows Yoruichi to harm Askin as her reiatsu changes forty-eight times in one second. That meant Askin didn’t have enough time to come up with ways to counteract her erratic mental stress.
However, the Thor form also has a drawback. This stimulation makes Yoruichi give in to her feline tendencies. Yoruichi was acting so much like a cat that for a moment she lost interest in attacking Askin because of the distraction. Yoruichi also focuses on landing attacks and toying with enemies rather than thinking strategically about her actions.
Even though Yoruichi performed well against Askin, you could tell that her advantage over Askin wouldn’t last long. Not only is Kisuke’s antidote to Yoruichi’s initial paralysis temporary (apparently only lasting 5 minutes), but we haven’t yet witnessed Askin unleash his Vollstandig. It can be seen that Askin is about to play his trump card after being tortured by Yoruichi. He finally did it.
Askin’s Vollstandig’s name was Hass Hein. From what I understand, Askin didn’t like this look, but it did allow him to turn the tables on Yoruichi and Kisuke, especially when the antidote ran out and stopped Yoruichi from advancing.
Thor ends with Askin trapping Kisuke and a paralyzed/poisoned Yoruichi in his luxurious gift ball. Kisuke was placed on Yhwach’s list of five special war threats due to his unpredictability in confrontations. So, you know Kisuke won’t fall easily.
The battle is just beginning to heat up, with a group of characters forced to do whatever it takes to have a chance of survival or ensure the survival of their teammates. Again, I can’t wait to see Orihime fight Yhwach!
