‘s first comment uprising A movie starring Andrew Garfield has landed, and so far critics seem to have mixed reviews for the Paul Greengrass-helmed historical(?) epic.
Late last month, Focus Features announced that the film will now be titled Uprising: The Rise of Robin HoodGarfield’s “farmer” will appear as the legendary British outlaw at some point in the movie.
uprising The original marketing purpose was to retell the true events of the 1381 English peasant revolt against King Richard II, which stemmed from the oppressive taxes and feudal restrictions imposed during his reign.
The updated summary is as follows: “Set against the backdrop of the true events of the Rebellion that inspired the legend of Robin Hood. [Garfield’s character] Form a people’s army to fight for justice against the power of the king. “
We assume the Robin Hood reveal was originally meant to be a surprise for audiences, and Focus Features thought dropping the twist might get more people on the edge of their seats. Whatever the case may be, the gamble didn’t pay off, and the studio quickly deleted all social media posts mentioning The Hood following the backlash.

Unless it’s a late spoiler that the studio is still trying to keep under wraps, Garfield’s character is never named, leaving it up to viewers to compare the Farmer’s actions to the legend of Sherwood Forrest the Archer and his “Merry Men.”
Regardless, the film’s blend of fact and fiction didn’t prove too effective for most critics. According to 29 reviews, uprising The current score on Rotten Tomatoes is 55%.
