For this year’s tribute to James Garner, I drew him in his role as Marshal Wyatt Earp in the 1967 film, Gun time. Unlike his character in The Rockford Files In her light comedy films, Garner shows her very serious side here, with her jaw set and her eyes steely in a style one might associate more with the likes of Clint Eastwood. It portrays a tormented man, trying to balance his quest for legal justice while also trying to convince himself that it is not revenge he seeks for the shootings that left him with one brother dead and another crippled by his wounds. I’ve tried to capture that haunted look in his expression as he doggedly pursues Ike Clanton and his gang for the numerous cold-blooded murders they have carried out in an attempt to politically control the city of Tombstone.
I’m afraid I had to leave this as a black and white illustration only, as I still haven’t replaced my scanner or found a suitable coloring program since I replaced my old Mac a couple of years ago and can no longer access Photoshop. For an older guy like me, the ever-changing world of digital art has been too much of a challenge to keep up with. As such, I don’t draw much anymore, I’m sorry to say.
