Cartoon: AI Rebranding – TeachPrivacy

Originally published on Substack

Here’s a new cartoon about the AI hype these days. It seems like anything that involves data or an algorithm is being rebranded as AI.

A while ago, I wrote about how AI is, in fact, a rebrand, one that I compared to the way fish was renamed.

I wrote:

AI is being adopted too hastily, clumsily and inappropriately. People are quick to sell AI to do anything and use it to do anything, even when these AI tools are not optimized to do all of these things. AI today is like a hammer and people try to use it like a saw or a screwdriver.

Read this post if you are interested in finding out more and learning about the fascinating story of how the names of various fish were changed and the impact it had.
