Accompanied by her real-life friend, Maple attempts to conquer the “New Online World.” They have fun in the game and perform various challenging missions. These missions seem like child’s play for these video game experts. Maple, however, doesn’t really know what she’s doing, which makes for an interesting dynamic.
In the game, there are various events that players can participate in, the best ones get attention and the rest get devoured, hahaha. The introduction of guilds makes me think of “Log Horizon,” and the overall team dynamic feels like SAO in its light-hearted, fun attitude.
Bofuri is by far the most anticipated show I look forward to when I open Hulu. It’s got action, video game gimmicks, classic anime tropes, and generally a lovely, fun energy associated with it.
The main character, Maple, strikes a chord with me and allows me to enjoy a 20-minute episode each week. I’m looking forward to seeing what crazy, overpowered situations he gets into, and I can’t wait for the next installment. As for the story itself, it’s a bit light, but the overall entertainment makes up for it. The joy I get from watching a comedy OP hero story is also a joy. I would rate it pretty high for this winter 2020 season as there are only a few shows worth your time.
