AnimeJapan ’21: New Bones anime series in the works

A television anime adaptation of The Vanitas Case Studyhas been announced. It will be produced by Bones and is scheduled to air this summer.

The television project is based on the ongoing manga series by Jun Mochizuki, known for his work on Pandora Hearts. The Vanitas Case Study is a steampunk story set in 19th century Paris and follows a vampire named Noe as he searches for the Book of Vanitas, a grimoire known to cast a spell on his kind. An unexpected episode leads him to meet Vanitas, a human who claims to be a doctor specializing in vampires and who is also the owner of the book.

The anime is directed by Tomoyuki Itamura, with series composition by Deko Akao and character design and animation supervision by Yoshiyuki Ito. It was also revealed that Natsuki Hanae and Kaito Ishikawa will play the roles of Vanitas and Noe respectively.

A teaser image designed by Ito and a video featuring sasanomaly’s opening theme give a preview of what’s to come.
