As otakus or anime viewers, we tend to become obsessed with other people’s worlds. This is a very common thing for anime. The series is filled with complex plots and relatable characters. Of course, we take that love outside by purchasing a variety of items and showing our interests through clothing. I know a lot of people who like me like to let people know that they like anime!
However, world times are changing. People have been placed in important positions, and the world has undergone tremendous changes. Our planet is constantly changing, which of course affects the things we engage with, such as anime.
In the United States, we have just witnessed the election of a new president. Until then, the United States had been the world leader. Many countries look to us for guidance and help. So what happens in the United States has consequences for the world. This includes our interactions with other countries such as Japan.
With this in mind, we otakus need to be vigilant about those who control our country. We have previously dealt with many government issues that could harm anime, such as Sopa Give an example. SOPA is a practice that will hurt anime fan sites and make it difficult for regular people to watch anime. Fortunately, the bill was stopped. Other agreements, such as trade deals, could cause damage in the near future.
Even outside the United States, other countries have the ability to influence anime through things like censorship or lack of imports. In some cases, citizens have little power, but in some cases, the people responsible for these matters are willing to be elected to power. Small actions can change the lives of many people.

| Support artists! “We need to look at the big picture and remember where our goods come from! |
Even though politics or economics may not be that interesting to anime viewers, they are important. They are also life-changing things. So if something is having an impact on the world, I think it’s natural to want to be a part of it.
Goods imported from Japan may become scarcer and more expensive. Anime viewing websites may be down and we may see less anime on TV. The community may become less accepting of otakus. The good thing is there’s always something we can do to make things better.
Now, I think it is very important to collect knowledge about the world and promote global thinking. More importantly, we need to express our love and promote positive change in our communities and fan bases. Even if it’s something as small as writing a blog post or making a YouTube video, each of us can do something to make the world a better place for us otakus and others! This isn’t going to happen unless we really focus on what’s going on and educate ourselves.
So I think we need to understand the world we live in. If we love anime, love Japan, and everything that comes with it, we need to do our best to stay positive!
