A bunch of updates!

I have been silent on this blog for a while and after reading this you will understand why. (This is all good news, don’t worry!)

I translated one Mushoku Tensei Book!

So… after leaving ANN, I entered the field of manga and light novel translation. Translation has always been an area I’ve dabbled in, like when I worked on Mari Okada’s autobiography, but now I have more time to devote to it. I love translating because I can do it on a flexible schedule while focusing more on my personal life – plus some jobs can be real passion projects.

Mushoku Tensei yes One of my favorite light novels So you can imagine my joy when I got the chance to translate Mushoku Tensei: Wuye Reincarnation – Memories. This is a collection of short stories originally written to supplement volumes 1-10 of the main series. While it doesn’t advance the main plot or anything, it has some of the funniest scenes in the entire series, so I highly recommend it to any fans!

I expect this will be the only Mushoku Tensei The novel was translated by me. The main series in English has been completed, and while I did get an offer to translate a separate novel, it just didn’t fit into my schedule. I’m so excited to be working on one of my favorite series – it’s definitely something on my bucket list!

JNC Original Light Novel Competition Review

A few months ago, the Japanese Novel Club held its first light novel contest. It received hundreds of submissions and I was involved in the entire process as a guest reviewer. Until now, Finalists are public. I can’t tell you yet which submissions I like best or who will win the entire competition, so I suggest you read the preview for yourself.

Participating in this competition was a very interesting experience. I had the opportunity to read some incredible light novel style works that I would never have encountered in the traditional realm. But it does mean that my time to read Japanese novels or watch anime is very limited these past few months. My backlog is getting smaller!

Regardless, I’m excited to announce the winners at Anime Expo, and I hope you are too. I originally wanted to come to AX for the JNC group in person, but life circumstances prevented that because lo and behold…

I’m going to have a baby in August this year

Yeah, that’s definitely the biggest thing that’s ever happened to me in my life, haha. I’m going to be a parent!

If you had told me three years ago that this was where I would end up, I would have been in disbelief. But after moving back to Australia, I started to feel strongly that this was what I wanted to do. Being able to buy my own home was a huge factor, and my family was very supportive, which I’m very grateful for.

But it’s not necessarily easy. Shortly after moving back, I discovered I had cancer in my left ovary that not only made it impossible for me to get pregnant, but ultimately threatened my life. Luckily, the surgery went well and I had a healthy pregnancy a few months later, but the whole experience was very humbling. Whether it’s childbirth or ordinary old age survival, life is never taken for granted…

Regardless, I really hope the last part of my pregnancy doesn’t get complicated and I’m looking forward to starting the next chapter of my life!

Recommend a light novel to complete the task quickly

Although I haven’t had that much time to read light novels lately, I wanted to end this post with a series I’m currently reading: Moon Road: Moonlight Fantasy.

New publisher Hanashi Media launched the English version of the popular isekai series a few months ago. this really surprised me pleasure The translation is. Even though the plot wasn’t 100% my cup of tea, especially as it progressed, every joke landed. The dialogue is snappy, and I always like hosts who take the ridiculous in stride. I wasn’t too impressed with the second season of the anime, but I recommend this novel to anyone who likes comedies (isekai or otherwise).

Anyway, that’s it for now! I know these things probably all deserve their own posts, but I hope you’ll forgive me for being too busy 😀

Take care everyone!
