Way to make minimal effort, Lara.
Impressions:
Rounding things out for all the shows this season that have terrible endings, we come to this, where it won’t even commit to… well, anything, really. That whole thing about needing to murder someone? A lie. You can just invent a new light. Which is funny because they go out of their way to say that Mari is not true love as NORMAL LOVE. It’s a special new kind of love that will fix things…uh…eventually, off-screen, not now, but later. At that moment, an entire kingdom of vengeful sea people will revive and be unleashed on the world. What a happy ending for everyone!
The chickening out is probably the anchor, but it really just highlights how total a character Lara was and why none of this works. He was having flashbacks of his part-time job. boss. Several times! Apparently, this was one of the most formulative people in his life. All centered around “Lara, be true to your feelings,” whatever that means. Don’t reject your murderous father. Do not reject patriarchal constructions of love and relationships. This random Dutch artist guy? Hey, whatever. He’s there, I guess. Have feelings, Lara. Just…believe in…believe in something. Which is a struggle for her, but she eventually gets over it and… wants… uh… things to be different, but not change in any way, and they don’t. The status quo is restored and everyone is happy about it. Again, ignoring the imminent invasion of Atlantis. Great job, team.
