Since I was going to be sitting in the middle seat of a Southwest plane last week, when I would normally be at my drawing table, I had to draw this week’s cartoon several days early.
Luckily, National Coming Out Day is next month and he already had a recurring character that he hasn’t told his mother about. (At least, that was clearly implied when he came to visit last January.)
But I’ve also established that Max’s mother works at the John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts, somehow where she personally interacted with Richard Grenell, so it can’t be completely alien to gay men. Max and Leo have probably lived together for at least five years despite their political differences; I should have some idea that there must be some reason why neither of them has expelled the other.
The two have a dog together, for crying out loud.
On the other hand, maybe Mom thinks National Coming Out Day is about encouraging outdoor activities.
