Zach Craig’s resident Evil The reboot is set to hit theaters this weekend, and following a press conference on Tuesday, the social media embargo has now been lifted.
The response so far has been overwhelmingly positive, with several posts praising Craig’s film as “the best video game adaptation ever made.”
Star Austin Abrams received high praise, as did Craig’s solid direction and successful balance of horror and comedy. The only vaguely negative reaction suggests that the film’s final act doesn’t quite live up to its predecessor.
Craig recently revealed that he actually edited many of the jokes after feedback from test screenings.
“I learned that people really liked the movie, but they thought it was too funny. So during my testing, I took out as many jokes as I could. And then I found that not only did the audience like the movie better, but I liked the movie more. A little humor goes a long way in a horror movie, and none of the jokes I took out of this movie were points that I missed. So that point was really helpful.”
Read the reactions below and we’ll update as we receive more.
